August 24 and 25, Summer is getting SHORT!

Well sadly, the Dog Days of Summer as getting short, it won't be long before temps drop and leaves start changing, RATS! Yes, 90 F+ days are a bit rough on us Senior citizens but I do not like the cold, wet and that 4 letter word, SNOW at all! Got in a couple of rides and a Food Ride with lunch so here's a report!

August 24th. The Rock Island Connector Trail is now open so we hadn't done a video on it yet, so here it is along with some photos. This "connects" Pikes Peak Greenway with Rock Island East and Shooks Run Trails. Before, you had to use several back streets to make these trail connections so it's a REAL improvement!! They even built an entry/exit on Cascade Ave onto the Rock Island Connector!  Here are Photos of the "connector trail" and a video our ride:

Here is the video and Mapping video:

August 25, 2024

Decided to just ride close so we headed north on the Pikes Peak Greenway up to the Vincent St. bridge, just off of Cottonwood Creek Trail. Headed to the access way Trail along Vincent Frontage Rd, Dublin Blvd and Nevada Ave. Over the "Cracked Path" to the under street access to the University Village Colorado Retail Center and Panera Bread. South on the Pikes Peak Greenway over to the Rock Island Connector, Shooks Run south, the Pikes Peak Ave Bike Lane thru Downtown over to America the Beautiful Park, Midland to the Walnut St. Bike Lane and the Mesa Springs Greenway. Back to Cascade St and to the Storage Unit. Just getting in a ride as it's supposed to be more rainy on Monday!

Gota FUN couple of days coming up, on August 27 and 29, we have Two out of State trike riding couples who are going to ride along with us on a few of our local trails! They are From TX. and WI. Going to be great to meet them in person as they are on a couple of Facebook Groups and are "SUBSCRIBERS" to our YouTube Page, "Out and About on the Recumbents"! Really looking forward to getting to RIDE with them!! :)

August 21, 2024-Another ride over to Manitou Springs

LOL, the weather was weird, it was cloudy, windy but according to the weather, it was supposed to clear up before we headed out from the Storage Unit! Nope, as we headed down the Cascade St. bike lane, the winds got stronger, and we were riding into "spiting RAIN drops"! :( It finally backed off as we got into downtown to pick up the Midland Trail over to Manitou Springs. Midland was sadly a bit trashy, ass the homeless like to use parts of it to make camps, :( Even then, the clouds were parting, and the sun was peeking out here and there.

We kept heading west thru Old Colorado City, ran into mud here and there on the low spots of the trail that run along Fountain Creek! Made it over to Schryver Park to use the restrooms, that thankfully, Manitou Springs keeps open "all year long"!! :) Decided to go a bit further up to the small picnic and bench spot on the "Creek Walk Trail" to stop and eat our brown bag lunch!

Also got a shot of the stone bridge that Mayfair St. uses to get over the creek from the small wooden bridge at the back of the Manitou Springs Chamber of Commerce Bldg.

From there, headed back east of the Creek Walk Trail and stopped at Field's Park, yes to use the restroom, I am OLD! LOL. Here's a new artwork piece that they installed.

Again headed east to where the Creek Walk becomes the Midland Trail heading back into Colorado Springs. Getting hot so we decided to head for the storage unit and not do our normal "iced tea" stop for the day! Here is a Relive Video Mapping of our ride, thanks for checking out the Blog! BJ :)

More August 2024, Rides and Vid's

So to continue with August rides and Vid's:

August 7:

Ride on the Pikes Peak Greenway.

August 11:

Rode up the Cheyenne Blvd. Bike Lane to the Starsmoor Center at the foot of the North Cheyenne Canyon Park. Had to ride thru lot's of construction barriers but it was a Sunday so no workers to stop us and NO CARS!

August 13:

We rode several different parts of different trails. We ended by checking out a new bike lane on Nicholas St., LOL, found out it's a very SHORT bike lane and ended up turning on El Paso St. to Fillmore St. and stopped at a Good2GO store for iced tea to have with our snack!

August 17:

Headed up the T-Gap trail, wanted to set up the Tripod for a "Moving by shot" for a video, which will follow after the photos! Lot's of HOT rides as the temps were working into the 90F+ levels as we are working towards the end of the "Dog Days of Summer" and slowly working into early FALL! It's tough to ride in the high temps but we REALLY dislike the COLD!

August 18:

Hadn't been on the Cottonwood Creek trail up to Cottonwood Creek Park in a bit so we headed up, I wanted a "tunnel" shot so Jo took a picture of me heading west in and out of the tunnel Headed back down the trail over to Panera Bread for our iced tea and brown bag lunch.

Here are some video's and some RELIVE video mapping vids, enjoy!

Haven't been riding the last couple of day, needed a break from the HEAT and we needed to be here at our apartment today to get a new kitchen sink facet installed and I had a morning bloodwork lab appointment at 10 am. Be heading out on Wednesday for more "HOT rides in the City"! Happy Trails!

August 2024, the HEAT continues but the Monsoon Season is heading towards us!

Lot's going on but with the HEAT in the 90 F+ range, we've mainly done very early morning rides or early morning walks!  So I will just add photos and videos to bring the blog up to date!

These photos cover area rides from the 22nd, 23rd and 30th. On the Pikes Peak Greenway, at the Storage unit at the end of a ride on a HOT day and along the T-Gap Trail.

7-31,

We'd ridden the western half of the T-Gap trail on one of the earlier days rides so we headed EAST, stopped at Portal Park for break, then continued up the T-Gap to one of it's ending point, this one is the north end, at Ranch Road. Headed back then got on a small accessway over to T-Gap Road Bike Lane to head towards downtown and the Olympic and Paralympic Museum for a photo op! From the Museum, we headed north on the Shooks Run Trail, stopping at the Tastee Freeze Drive in for Iced Tea and snack before heading to the Cascade Ave Bike Lane back to the storage unit to call it a day!

8-3,

We headed out to Manitou Springs, the "backway" using the Mesa Springs Greenway to get to the westside, rather than the Weber St. Bike Lane. Got to America the Beautiful Park and headed west on the Midland Trail, once into Manitou Springs, turns into the Creek Walk Trail. Stopped at the park for lunch, rode to the current end point of the trail. Headed east back to Co. Springs. It was HOT but most of the morning was nice as it had rained a bit overnight!

Here are some video's:

The Videos Cover from Mid July to August 3rd! Thanks for checking out the BLOG!

Well that's it for now, Today, August 5th. is my 69th birthday and my brother Bob and my wife Jo took me to the "Black Bear Diner" for my Birthday Breakfast. We hugged Bob and then walked the 4 miles from the Diner, down the Sinton Trail to the PP Greenway and to our apartment! Beautiful morning but the HEAT was coming in when we got home!! Till next time, "Let's Go, Ride LOW, Ride RECUMBENT!
