October has been a VERY busy month for us, we stayed in Cripple Creek, CO. and went to a Melodrama of Monty Python' "Spam A Lot", it was great, lot's of really early fall weather has made riding really nice! The temp's being a bit lower and the leaves turning colors, it's just too bad Fall is so short and Winter is so LONG!! :( Ok, here's what's been going on!
October 1, we headed over to see if we could find a backway thru Palmer Park to the Overlook area. We did finally figure out how to get to the back entryway and took a couple of photos and a video at the Overlook! Palmer Park is mostly a very large city park with lot's of Hiking and Mountain Biking type trails. It only has one narrow paved road thru the park, fit for recumbent trikes and you have to share the road with CARS, yikes, still the view is excellent!
Headed out to Manitou Springs to our favorite brown bag lunch spot on the Creek Walk Trail. beautiful day, sunny and warm, just enjoyed being out and about on the recumbents!
October 6,October 8, This ride was a "Mission Ride", we rode over to the Evergreen Cemetery to say Happy Birthday to my Mom, who passed into the light in February 2024. We used a lot of Bike Lanes and back streets and arrived at the Cemetery. Got lucky and my Brother Bob was also there so the 3 of us sang "Happy Birthday" to Mom! After that we rode to the lower part of the Shooks Run Trail to eat our brown bag lunch, checked out the ending point at the railroad bridges. Someday, this will head south and join up with the Pikes Peak Greenway!
October 12, We decided to head to the "Sacred Grounds Cafe" for lunch, headed up towards North Cheyenne Canyon City Park. We almost had to turn back due to "Road Construction" along Cheyenne Blvd Bike Lane but found out we could sneak by using sidewalks and opposite lanes to work our way up. We managed to get to the Cafe, it was very busy! We headed back down, being able to use the "cleared" east bound traffic lane, thank goodness it was downhill so we could keep a higher speed, while having to "take the lane" with the cars!! From there, we just kinda wandered here and there around the city, using different trails and bike lanes. We did a quick photo op at America the Beautiful Park, then headed up the Rock Island and the Academy Blvd access path to a Mavrick store for a 2nd iced tea and snack! Here is a video and some photos!
PS: We did a Food and Supplies ride on October 10, then a quick BOGO Free lunch at
